Square Enix finally gave Final Fantasy VII fans what they’d been eagerly awaiting back in June 2022: the official title and release window for the second part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project! Officially titled Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the game is set to launch in Winter 2023 on PlayStation 5.

The announcement trailer showcased Cloud and his companions venturing out of Midgar and into the vast world beyond, areas that fans of the original Final Fantasy VII will instantly recognize, albeit reimagined with stunning modern graphics. We got glimpses of iconic locations like Kalm, the grasslands, and even a fleeting shot of a certain spiky-haired antagonist.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth promises to continue the expanded and altered narrative of the Remake project, delving deeper into the characters and lore of the original game while introducing new mysteries and surprises. The combat system, which blended real-time action with strategic elements in the first part, is expected to evolve further in Rebirth.

While the wait until Winter 2023 felt long at the time, the anticipation for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was incredibly high. The first part of the Remake was a critical and commercial success, and fans were eager to see how the story would continue and how beloved characters and locations would be brought to life in this ambitious multi-part reimagining.
