During a special anniversary stream in June 2022 celebrating the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII, Square Enix finally unveiled the official title and release window for the highly anticipated second part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project! The game will be called “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” and is scheduled to launch in early 2024 on PlayStation 5.
The trailer showcased Cloud and his companions venturing out of Midgar and into the vast world beyond, hinting at a much larger and more explorable map than the first part. We got glimpses of familiar locations from the original game, such as Kalm and the grasslands, all beautifully reimagined with modern graphics.

“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” is confirmed to be the second of a planned trilogy of games that will retell the story of the iconic RPG. While the first part focused solely on the Midgar section of the original game, “Rebirth” looks set to cover a significant portion of the adventure that follows.
The trailer also teased new gameplay mechanics and combat scenarios, building upon the action-RPG foundation of the first remake while promising even more depth and variety. The return of beloved characters and the expansion of the storyline have fans incredibly excited to see how Square Enix will continue to reimagine this classic tale.
While the wait until early 2024 felt long at the time, the announcement of “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” provided a concrete roadmap for the continuation of this ambitious remake project. The journey to revisit the complete story of Final Fantasy VII is well underway!
